In the name of FREEDOM
|
Azadeh; the very name is derived from the word “freedom” in Persian, the language of a people for whom the notion may seem at times unobtainable. This body of work focuses on the deprivation of freedom as it relates to different populations and sections of society around the world. The artist sees such obstructed freedom in the form of a new iconography for the word, one with interlocking E’s symbolizing encaged aspirations. |

TAKING SHAPE
|
This latest series is inspired by organic shapes, from curvatious cloud formations seen from below to sharp jagged contours of landmasses seen from the air. Paint is projected onto the canvas, transforming itself and evolving into dynamic shapes induced by the artist and a unique mix of controlled and deliberately fortuitous extemporaneous variables. |

VEILED REVELATIONS
|
What we see at first glance doesn’t reveal the full picture. Passive glimpses we take at abbreviated news on conflict zones or complex socio-cultural issues merely provide hazy, veiled views of our world. Seek more. Look actively. Ponder. Decipher through the layers. Now what do you see?
Each piece in this series was created as an overlay of several paintings. The viewer is left looking through a window, using the right balance of active observation and imagination to reveal the veil on the various layers. Video showing Veiled Revelations 5 & Puzzling 25 in Joshua Bell's home. |

PUZZLING
|
The perennial search for the right balance between total control and the elusive element of chance continues. In this series I paint a new work, deconstruct it by cutting it into strips then put it back together like a puzzle. Taken to the extreme an originally large rectangular painting ends up into a square triptych or even a circle with much of the original work hidden behind overlapping pieces of the puzzle. |

METALLICA
|
This series builds on the last one. It follows a more layered and complex process.
The color scheme is inspired by one of three metallic colors: copper, silver, or gold.

INNER MOTIONS
|
This instinctive body of work is the unrestrained manifestation of inner motions. Their rhythm is guided by the unconscious. The result is a sampler of emotions that punctuate our lives, from chaos to near serenity.

UNFOLDING MELODIES
|
Imagine a painted music score. Each painting is composed while listening to a different piece. The canvas becomes a percussion instrument. The rhythm of the paintbrush visually mimics the tempo.

INSTILL-ATIONS
|
Mundane objects take on a renewed life and function as they touch the canvas. The objects become the raison d’ętre behind each piece of work. The goal is to make you take notice of otherwise invisible items, to expose their often-ignored beauty, to instil and infuse them a new dimension.

911

Consumed by feelings of survival guilt and helpless sorrow, I finally found strength and solace in painting. This series portrays hope and determination in the face of tragedy.

This section includes a variety of short unrelated series. One such questions the avarice of the healthcare industry and the medical profession.
